Professional Biography
Dr. Richard Alan Mecall Received his doctor of dental surgery degree from the highly regarded University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1974. Dr. Mecall subsequently received a Master of Science degree from the University of Iowa, where he studied bone physiology. Following his general dental training, Dr. Mecall completed his residency in periodontology at the esteemed University of Iowa, College of Dentistry in 1977.

In 1983, Dr. Mecall became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a distinction held by less than one third of practicing dentists.
Dr. Mecall’s leadership in dentistry is evidenced by his past academic positions at the University of Illinois and University of Iowa. He has been a visiting faculty member at the prestigious L.D. Pankey Institute and was director of IMPLEMENT, Applications in Advanced Dental Education.
Dr. Mecall has authored numerous articles and has been published is several journals. He has most recently contributed to the International Journal of Periodontology and Restorative Dentistry. In fact, Dr. Mecall’s articles have been published in several languages.
In collaboration with Dr. Alan Rosenfeld, Dr. Mecall developed an implant diagnostic procedure now considered the standard of care in implant dentistry.
Dr. Mecall is contributing author to Dental Applications of Computed Tomography and Implant Therapy, and has authored two texts of his own, Clinical Periodontics for the 21st Century Restorative Dentist and Problem Identification With Computed Tomography: An Essential Beginning to Development of Realistic Treatment Objectives.
Dr. Mecall is a past member of the attending medical staff in the Department of Surgery at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. Dr. Mecall is currently on staff of Summerlin Hospital. As part of his hospital training, Dr. Mecall is licensed to deliver intravenous sedation for patient comfort.
