Periodontal Culturing
Viewing plaque under high magnification allows us to identify the types of bacteria present, which in turn, helps us determine the severity of your gum disease. An independent laboratory aids in the determination of each bacterium's susceptibility to antibiotics, which makes the treatment process more precise.
Anti-Infective Therapy
Based on our new understanding of the casual relationship between bacteria and gum disease, I administer antibacterial medications, when indicated, in the form of oral rinses or antibiotics, to eliminate disease-associated bacteria.
Scaling and Root Planing
When plaque extends below the gum line, gingivitis can deteriorate into a condition known as periodontitis. Periodontitis is an infection that can erode the ligament and bone beneath your gums, creating deep pockets that foster the growth of destructive bacteria. Treatment may include the use of antibiotics and root planing (deep scaling of the bacteria filled pockets).
I am equally committed to preventive periodontal care and advocate the use of specific-home-care regiments and products (such as automatic brushing and irrigation systems) to retard disease progression and facilitate oral health maintenance. Patients are given detailed instructions and recommendations to ensure optimal results.
